Why is CONNECT terminating its mandates with indie members?
CONNECT and PANORAMA have formed a strategic partnership to streamline operations and maximize revenue collection for all rights holders. As part of this partnership, CONNECT will focus on representing major labels (and their affiliated labels) and will take the lead in licensing on behalf of the entire Canadian record label industry, both major and indie. PANORAMA will fully take on the role of representing indie members in the collective management of rights. This focus of responsibilities will allow both organizations to enhance their services and together better service the Canadian landscape.
Do I need to take any immediate action?
Mandate changes will take effect on January 1, 2025. In the short term you should:
- Make sure all your releases up to December 31st, 2024, are appropriately submitted to the CONNECT portal
- Initiate your registration at PANORAMA using this link: https://octave.panorama.mu/
- Once the PANORAMA agreement is completed, you will have access to the PANORAMA portal where you will be able to manage your contact information, bank deposit information, etc.
- New repertoire submissions will be possible on January 1st, 2025, once your PANORAMA portal account is activated.
Will CONNECT continue to support me during the transition?
Yes. Our goal is to make the transition as seamless as possible, and we will continue to offer support to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have. As you have come to rely on us, CONNECT will continue to manage your royalties for past years and remain responsible for all questions related to royalties collected prior to January 1, 2025, ensuring you receive payment along with a smooth handover. PANORAMA’s team will assist with your membership needs related to royalties collected from January 1, 2025 and onwards.

Will there be online information sessions?
Yes, we are currently working on scheduling online information sessions, which will be held in late November and in December. These sessions will cover the alliance, the transition process, a walkthrough of the PANORAMA portal, registration steps, PANORAMA’s member services and more. We will share further details in the coming weeks.

Will my royalties or payments be affected by this transition?
No, your existing royalties will continue to be processed and paid during the transition period. CONNECT will oversee all royalty distributions for past years, including the 2024 tariff year. Once you transfer your mandate, and starting effective January 1, 2025, PANORAMA will take over royalty collection and management on your behalf for 2025 onwards.

What about my international royalties?
CONNECT has reciprocal agreements in place on behalf of its members for remunerative rights through Re:Sound. Just as with your domestic neighbouring rights and reproduction royalties, CONNECT will continue to process and deliver your international royalties for those collected up until December 31, 2024. Moving forward, PANORAMA will assume responsibility for distributing international royalties, which may include past years, depending on the timing of Re:Sound’s collections.

Will this alliance affect the fees I pay?
Yes. As mentioned in the member blast, a key benefit of the alliance is the streamlining of operations to reduce overall costs. So members should see a reduction in their administrative fees, which will be communicated clearly over the coming months.

What if I prefer to remain with CONNECT?
CONNECT has terminated its agency agreements, effective January 1, 2025. We highly encourage you to transition to PANORAMA to continue receiving representation and to maximize your revenue potential. PANORAMA is dedicated to supporting indie creators and will provide the necessary services to meet your needs.

Will CONNECT continue to license on my behalf?
CONNECT will take the lead in providing licensing opportunities for members of both CONNECT and PANORAMA, building on existing models while exploring new revenue streams. CONNECT and PANORAMA will work together to offer joint licenses that benefit all Canadian rights holders.

When can I expect to receive a first payment from PANORAMA?
In Canada, royalties for public communication of sound recordings are distributed annually the year after the broadcast. Since PANORAMA will represent you starting January 1, 2025, you can expect your first payment in 2026 for the 2025 broadcasts. In the meantime, you should continue to see payments from CONNECT for royalties earned up to the end of 2024.

Will this affect my existing ISRC Registrant code or ISRC Codes?
No. ISRC Registrant codes are permanent and not dependent on CONNECT membership. They will remain the same and valid for any current or future releases.

Are PANORAMA services offered in English?
